ATD GREATER RICHMOND CHAPTER BOARD MEMBERS

President

Sandra Smith, CPTD brings over twenty years of teaching, training, coaching, instructional design, technical writing, content development, and editing experience with her to our Board.  She has owned several educationally-focused businesses and has consulted with many Fortune 500 & Fortune 100 organizations.  Sandra's passion is eLearning and she enjoys creating engaging educational content.
Presently, Sandra is an All Native Group Instructional Systems Designer III at U.S. Department of State, Foreign Affairs Security Training Center.

Sandra has a Bachelor's degree in Biology and is an avid gardener. She also enjoys watching (both people and) plants grow!

Past President

Kevin Clarke comes to the Board with over 15 years of management experience with a passion for Training and Development. For the past 10 years, Kevin has had the opportunity to work as a Senior Manager for CarMax in the roles of mentor, facilitator and trainer.  
He recently moved to the Richmond area to join the Talent Management group at CarMax as the Principal Leader. 

Kevin holds Masters’ degrees in  Business Administration and Human Resource Management.

President Elect


Lauren Philip, CPTD has had the benefit of navigating in diverse and multicultural environments, having worked in several Caribbean islands as well as the United States.  She is currently a HR Consultant at the Virginia Community College System.  
As the Principal Consultant at LP Consulting, she has worked with several organizations, leading change initiatives that help business partners increase their competitive advantage by leveraging their human capital. 

Lauren holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Human Resource Management and Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship and a Master’s degree in Education - Human Resource Development from Virginia Commonwealth University.

VP of Governance

Tom Coltrain works in LMS implementation and administration at Dominion Energy. He brings over 8 years experience working with a variety of clients in diverse industries consulting on human resources, training, strategy, software implementation, and project management.  

Tom received a B.S. in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Masters in Human Resources Management from the University of Richmond.


VP of Professional Development


Kelli Frey, CPTD is an Associate Director of Learning and Development and EAB. She has a demonstrated history of providing excellence in coaching, instructional design & delivery, facilitation, eLearning development, and more. A passion to always learn, improve, and evolve both for those she works with and herself is evident. Her non-traditional background allows her to build out-of-the box ideas into powerful solutions for personal and professional development.


Director of Onboarding and Retention

Anitha Pai is a bridge-builder who is passionate about bringing people together to create meaningful learning experiences and shared purpose. Over the last 10 years, she’s worn many hats, including professional roles as a trainer, curriculum designer, administrator, and project manager. She has supported growing start-ups, large global firms, and education organizations at various stages in their evolution. She holds a MEd with a focus on Learning and Teaching and a BA in Business Administration and Political Science.

Anitha brings a spirit of optimism, authenticity, and purpose to her role as the Onboarding & Retention Director. In her free time, you’ll find her playing with her puppy Suki, eating other people's cooking, or attempting to make something out of clay. 


Director of Communities of Practice

Nelly Loyola has over ten years of experience delivering projects and managing talent in different companies and industries. Early in her career, she worked in a boutique talent management consulting firm. There she led talent management projects in the best companies located in Perú, in different industries such as mining, consumer goods, aviation, and mass media. Later, she was in charge for more than four years of the talent strategy and global management of a group that has three business units: Agriculture, aquaculture, and trading. In her last position, she was the Human Development Manager of a consumer goods company in which she was responsible for the improvement of the talent strategy, implementation, and management.

She has a degree in Clinical Psychology from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), a Master’s in Organizational Development from Universidad del Pacífico (UP), and she is a Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD). She also has a specialization in Applied Statistics from PUCP and Change Management from Incae Business School.


Director of Virtual Events

Rodney Steppe joins the Board with years of experience in various areas including human resources, instructional design, and technology to name a few. He had his first experience in facilitation years ago and looks forward to doing more in adult learning. Rodney enjoys giving back to the community. He has volunteered for multiple organizations in Richmond and recently began volunteering for a hospice organization. Rodney always welcomes the opportunity to meet new people and try new things.

 Rodney received his Masters of Education - Human Resource Development and a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish from Virginia Commonwealth University. 

Director of Technology

Susan Motley is a seasoned association executive who currently works with physician and provider recruitment professionals and is responsible for certification, education alignment, and strategic planning.

Susan has nearly twenty years of experience leading health care associations, including the Virginia Nurses Association and the Medical Society of Virginia Foundation. While there, one of her most proud achievements was leading those two organizations in collaboration to form an award-winning clinical team leadership program for Virginia's physicians and nurses.

Susan holds the Certified Association Executive credential from the American Society of Association Executives and recently completed ATD’s certificate program in Instructional Design. 

Susan, a history major, proudly holds a liberal arts degree from the College of William and Mary.


Director of External Communication

Shanaye La Beaud is a creative and driven young professional eagerly exploring the learning and development space. She currently serves as the Training & Development Manager at Elephant Insurance. While new to the L&D space, she also has 5 years of experience in people management and call center operations. She is passionate about building strong leaders and making development opportunities available to people at all levels in their career journey.

Shanaye is a graduate of VCU’s Executive MBA program (2019) and holds a SHRM-CP certification (2020). She loves to share knowledge and find unique ways to help others discover new insights. As Director of Live Events, her goal is to create engaging and impactful experiences for members to expand their knowledge, skills, and share best practices with one another. These events you won’t want to miss!


Director of Content Management

Ashley Whitehead is the new director of Content Management. She has been in the financial industry for over 12 years and has been working in a content management role for the past year and a half.  She has played an instrumental role in developing and editing complex and detailed content as well as process documentation, policy and procedures and business development materials. She is a curious and continuous learner and passionate about relationship building and networking. Ashley is excited to contribute and serve as a board member of Richmond ATD.

Director of Website


Charles Zoffuto creates training for Tridium/Honeywell spearheading the work focused on the Internet of Things. He creates elearning that teaches employees and customers how to use products that allow people and machines to communicate and collaborate. 

Charles has been an instructional designer and elearning developer since 2000. He has built courses on topics that range from soft skills for HR clients to technical skills for engineers in the Nuclear Power industry. 

Charles received a B.S. in Education from The Citadel and a Masters in Educational Psychology from the University of Tennessee.

He enjoys using CAD to design things to 3D print, building in his shop, or cooking for his family. 

Director of Sponsorship and Partnership


Liz Fillman brings over 15 years of experience in adult education and training development.  She currently serves as the Assistant Director for the Virginia Tech Richmond Center.  She has worked within other higher education institutions including the Community College Workforce Alliance at John Tyler and Reynolds Community Colleges, the Office of Continuing and Professional Education at Virginia Commonwealth University and Continuing and Professional Education at Virginia Tech.

Her passion is helping professionals develop skills that allow them to continuously advance their career and helping organizations develop and engage their employees through valuable training initiatives.

She holds a bachelor’s from Virginia Tech and a MBA from the University of Maryland Global Campus.
