Essential Coaching Skills for Leaders

Successful leaders coach and mentor, thus effective leadership necessitates an ambidextrous approach. It is not just the ability to execute upon a vision the “what” (goals to be achieved, widgets), but must be balanced with the “how” (the ability to consistently demonstrate/mirror and influence pertinent behaviors that will bring about reproducible and repeatable expected results).  We are to inspect what we expect which simply means that before we lead others it is imperative that we understand our role in the accomplishment of common goals.  Leadership is developed, not discovered. The truly ‘born leader’ will always emerge; but, to stay on top, natural leadership characteristics must be developed.”  This is largely done through excellent communication skills an a total belief in the leaders ability to help those they lead to do and be more, which ultimately leads to consistent goal achievement.  Thus, the success of a leader rests upon their ability to create a balance of the “what” and the “how.”
